Objective/Goals

• Existing commercial 16-storey CBD building undergoing a refurbishment to lift it to ‘brand new status’ requiring an updated generator system

Problem

• Navigate into an existing generator location to extract the old system and install a new one
• Work around the busy location, with limitations on time and access
• Work within the physical limitations of an older building site, where the previous generator plant room was placed within the building with limited access, and the remote radiator was on the roof and separated from the generator on the 1st floor
• Develop greater energy security for the entire site

Solution

• Working with the architectural team, removed walls and facades to extract old equipment and install a new generator system
• Utilise cranes and equipment to remove then install the new system
• Supplied and installed a 500kVA generator with a remote radiator (on roof)
• Incorporated a new automated transfer switch

Outcomes

• Successful navigation of the building limitations, to ensure ongoing structural integrity of the building
• Upgraded power systems to align with current technology
• Improved safety, reliability and longevity of the system to support the refurbishment of the site
